[ARCHIVED] City of Princeton purchases state-of-the-art drone, Volatus Aerospace hosts demonstration

PRINCETON, TEXAS: On December 4, 2023, Volatus Aerospace will host a drone demonstration at J.M. Caldwell Sr. Community Park. Purchased with funding from Princeton’s Community Development Corporation (CDC), the drone will assist the Princeton Fire Department with daily operations.

Ascent Spirit stands out as the optimal platform for critical missions, serving as the ideal tool for firefighting, search and rescue, inspection, and night operations. It boasts protection against contamination and demonstrates reliable performance in challenging weather conditions such as heavy rain, sleet, sand, and snow. Furthermore, it can operate in winds that would ground other UAVs. With a highly streamlined airframe capable of reaching speeds exceeding 60 mph, the drone can cover greater distances, achieve higher speeds, operate for extended durations, and carry larger payloads.

Dean Attridge, Vice President of Solutions Engineering, states, "By acquiring this American-made drone, our purchase actively contributes to supporting the domestic industry. The Spirit drone has received approval for use by the Department of Defense (DoD) and adheres to our stringent data security policies."

Equipped with a thermal camera, Ascent Spirit provides unparalleled aerial imaging capabilities. The Princeton Fire Department is set to become the inaugural local agency in the state to acquire this drone. Notably, it will also be the sole agency in the country equipped with a camera specifically tailored for use with this drone.

Joe Cedeno, Fire Inspector for the City of Princeton, states, “Princeton is extremely fortunate to be one of the first cities in Texas to purchase this drone, and we are excited to use it as our front-line eye in the sky. This technology will be a tremendous help to the fire department for search and rescue operations, fire investigations, large construction inspections projects, enhancing community development, public events, as well as to perform a variety of other tasks of rural and urban interface within the community of Princeton.”

Princeton residents should be aware that the drone will be airborne at around 2:00 p.m. in J.M. Caldwell Sr. Community Park.
