City of Princeton Implements Enhanced Safety Measures for July Spectacular

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 6-14-2023

PRINCETON, TEXAS: The City of Princeton is excited to celebrate Independence Day at the July Spectacular on July 1 at J.M. Caldwell Sr. Community Park. In consideration of the recent tragedy in Allen, the City of Princeton is implementing enhanced safety measures to ensure that the event provides a safe and fun environment for all attendees.

“Due to recent traumatic events, the City of Princeton is taking additional security measures to help ensure the safety of our residents and staff at this year’s July Spectacular,” said Interim Chief of Police James Waters. “We understand that this may inconvenience some, but we ask that the community remain patient with us as we work to ensure everyone enjoys their time and remains safe at this City-hosted event.”

The safety measures are detailed below.

Clear Bag Policy

July Spectacular attendees are allowed one clear plastic tote no larger than 12” x 6” x 12”, one small clutch purse no larger than 4.5” x 6.5”, and/or one clear resealable plastic bag no larger than one gallon. All bags are subject to inspection. Attendees are NOT allowed to bring purses larger than a clutch bag, coolers, backpacks, briefcases, camera bags, or any bag larger than the permissible size. Secure Entrances

Attendees will enter the event through one of three secure entrances. Officers from the Princeton Police Department will be stationed at each entrance and throughout the park to promote a safe event experience.

First Aid

City staff working at the event will be equipped with first aid kits. The First Aid Tent and Cooling Station will be located in front of the concession stand.

Communication

A wireless sound system will be utilized for event announcements and emergency alerts. Residents can also receive emergency notifications from the City via CivicReady by texting their zip code to 38276 or signing up online.
