Fire Sprinklers

Fire sprinkler systems are invaluable tools required by the City of Princeton Fire Codes in businesses, apartments, and large homes. These systems are designed to activate during a fire which allows people time to escape and may reduce the amount of fire damage.

Fire sprinkler systems must be maintained for the devices to work properly. Princeton Fire Codes require all commercial and residential fire sprinkler systems to be inspected annually to insure proper performance. A systems last test and inspection dates are noted on a tag attached to the system’s riser or control valve. The tag should also show the name of the company or person who conducted the last inspection and contact information.

If there is any question whether your fire sprinkler system has been inspected or is in compliance, please contact the City Fire Marshal at 469-525-2777.

Fire Lanes

It is the responsibility of the business owner to maintain all fire lane striping and signage on any private property. The law requires that all fire lanes be clear at all times to allow access in case of emergency.

See the International Fire Code currently adopted for minimum requirements. Thank you for helping keep our city safe.

Plan Review

The Fire Marshal’s office requires a plan review prior to issuance of any building permits for commercial buildings, remodel or new. Plans can be submitted at City Hall in the Building Department. If you have any questions regarding current requirements, please contact the Fire Marshal’s office at 469-525-2777.

Investigation

The Fire Marshal’s office investigates all fires within the City of Princeton. You may obtain a copy of the report by submitting an Open Records Request to Princeton City Hall. You will need the date of the incident and location, and a brief description of the incident, and any applicable fees. These reports are available after a complete investigation has been conducted.
